Warden Hill's one goal is enough to sink the Town ladies

CIRENCESTER Ladies FC were pipped by the only goal of Sunday's match by a Warden Hill side keen to retain their second place in the Glo'shire County Women's League table.

This encounter was made more difficult for the Corinium Stadium team with the unavailability of several key players.

Despite having to field four 14-year-olds and with Vicki Nicholls playing her first full game for the local ladies, Town started well.

However, although managing to the away side on the back foot for long periods, Cirencester were unable to make their possession pay off.

The second half saw more end-to-end play with Warden Hill now pressing with some urgency.

And it took some firm defending from Linda Weaven, Lynne Bradbury-Frape and Karen Meredith in the home goal to keep it all square.

Nonetheless, ten minutes from time Warden Hill took the lead with a deflected shot which looped over the home keeper.

Unfortunately, Cirencester could not get back on level terms when a draw would have been a fair result.

Even so, it was still good all round performance from the Town ladies with captain Mandy Brown winning player of the match in a changed position of centre midfield.

On Sunday, Cirencester travel to Bristol to take on Bristol and West in the Women's Challenge Cup, kick-off 2pm.
