Scott enjoys his big day out in FA Cup-tie at Hillsborough

ALTHOUGH Salisbury City failed to pull off a giant-killing act in Sunday's FA Cup-tie away to Sheffield Wednesday, Scott Bartlett thoroughly enjoyed his moment of glory.

The 24-year-old Standard advertising executive and captain of his Dr Martens League Eastern Division side has had a chance to come back down to earth after a very hectic few days.

"Playing at Hillsborough was a truly amazing experience," he said "and one that I shall remember for a very long time.

"We performed so well for the first 20 minutes, that I felt sure we gave them something to worry about.

"It wasn't until Sheffield scored from the penalty spot in the first half and then hit us cold with a goal straight after the break, that they began to look more comfortable. In the end, we were far from disgraced in a 0-4 defeat.

"However, I have to take my hat off to the 2000 or so Salisbury fans who made the long trip to give us their tremendous support.

"It was most uplifting. I must also thank those staff from the Standard who journeyed up to cheer me on.

"I couldn't help but notice, of course, the big Standard banner that they had displayed on the railings!

"It was a unique experience for the team and, in the circumstances, I think we did extremely well against the full-time professionals."

Nonetheless, Scott wasn't too thrilled to have had a yellow card wave at him for an alleged abuse of a linesman.

He said, "I did explain to the referee that I hadn't made any comments, but he just retorted with 'well they all say that, don't they?'.

"Anyway, the matter was latter resolved when the linesman concerned acknowledged that the remark had come from someone in the crowd."

For Scott, who was returning from injury, this was only his second game in six weeks.

Even so, he performed admirably and his only real disappointment was that his team didn't score the one goal that their efforts deserved.
