Cirencester RFC desperately need an upturn in fortunes

AFTER suffering a 12-42 defeat away to Painswick on Saturday and now finding themselves at the foot of the Premier League table, Cirencester 1st XV are desperately looking for a change in fortunes.

The visitors had been hoping to get their revival back on track, but a slow start and inadequate defence meant those aspirations weren't going to be achieved.

In contrast, Painswick boasted a pacy threequarter line that started on the attack from the off.

And their rivals were quickly two tries down having allowed their opponents to run around them.

The game threatened to even up when No 8 Tristan Chippendale powered his way over the home line and Andy Thompson converted.

Nonetheless, the hosts continued to use their backs and half-time saw a demoralising scoreboard or the away team that read 31-7.

The Whiteway team did manage to compete better in the second half, but Painswick had a clear enough lead not to worry.

Even so, Town scored their second try through Thompson following a well-engineered penalty move.

And though Town's defence improved somewhat, Painswick still ran out as comfortable winners.
