Early goal for Stinchcombe puts Oaksey in the driving seat

OAKSEY FC added to their run of wins by beating visiting CHQ by the odd goal in five in Saturday's Cirencester Football League Division One encounter.

After an even first 20 minutes, the Wiltshire side broke the deadlock from a Martin Rice cross following a free kick.

And it was Pete Stinchcombe who rose highest to score with a looping header.

Within minutes, though, it was one goal apiece when a thumping volley from a headed clearance found the back of the Oaksey net.

For the remainder of the half, Oaksey had much more of the play and the pace of Rose and Hotham was causing the CHQ problems in defence.

After the break, continuing home pressure resulted in a throw-in from which Simon Rose back-heeled a volley past the keeper to make it 2-1 to Oaksey.

With ten minutes remaining, Oaksey went 3-1 up when Andy Hart, from over 40 yards out, smashed the ball towards the opposition's goal.

As it descended, the keeper lost its flight and the ball dropped over his head into the net.

The lead was reduced with less than five minutes to when CHQ won a free kick which was placed the hosts' net.

But Oaksey held on to run deserved 3-2 winners in a game excellently refereed by Dave Morecambe.

This week's SYZYGY man of the match award went to Peter Drake.
