THERE were 48 entries and some excellent scores when the ladies' section of Cirencester Golf Club played their October medal on Saturday, October 4, and Thursday, October 9.
Winners of an event played in cold and windy conditions and on fast greens are as follows:
Silver Division, 1 Lee Collins 80-15 nett 65; 2 Barbara Chesworth (90-19-71) on the back nine from J Cloughton (CSS 72); Bronze 1 P Challens (94-26-68), 2 M Downs (95-22-73). Five ladies reduced their handicaps.
The Committee Trophy (NQ) Stableford was contested on October 7.
Liz Ferries (nett 72) won the Silver Division and the runner- up was Angela Canty with nett 77. Bronze winner was Meg Stewart (nett 74) and the runner- up Barbara Grimwade (nett 77).
On Sunday, October 19, and in the last cup of the season, the Gatrell Goblett provided some excitement.
In order to qualify, a player had to have won an LGU medal during the year and with a number of ladies having qualified more than once, there was a small field of 14 entries.
Despite competitors having to contend with gale-force winds, bone-dry fairways and newly- tined greens, a trio of players tied for first place with nett 69.
And so Sheila Marsh 89-20 (69), Ann Williams 87-18-69 and Jane Muncer 99-30-69 had to participate in an 18-hole play-off last Saturday sunny but windy day.
Sheila maintained her good form, playing one under her handicap, to win the cup while runner-up Jane, who just missed out, was one over her handicap.
The Gloucestershire Ladies' County Fraser Foursomes medal, which was rained off in August at Stinchcombe Hill GC, was replayed last Thursday.
The original 36-hole format had to be reduced to 27 holes to enable play to be completed in daylight.
There was a strong, bitter wind and the greens were lightning fast. Nonetheless, 72 pairs representing 16 clubs took part on a sunny day.
Cirencester's Ann Williams and Barbara Grimwade were leading with a nett 73 after 18 holes in the morning but slipped into third place overall in the afternoon.
In the end, the winners were Lorna Sparks and Jean Kendrick (Painswick) who, playing with Ann and Barbara, won with a nett 112.75, second scored nett 113 and third 114 nett.
