MINETY RFC sailed through to the third round of the Powergen Junior Vase with an emphatic six-try win over Bath club Old Sulians, winning Saturday's round two home tie by 36 points to nil.
Having cancelled their scheduled 2nd XV friendly against Minchinhampton, Minety could put their injury worries behind them and reinforce their understrength first team with a string of talented second-team players.
The resulting side turned out to be reassuringly well balanced.
They outscrummaged the visitors up front and outpaced them out wide, and while Minety racked up the tries, Old Sulians failed score a single point.
In his best game so far this season, flying winger Ollie Bown scored a hat-trick of tries, repeatedly out-running the Sulians' defence.
Centre Will Howse and hooker Andy Moran contributed a try apiece and there was a try, too, for second team stalwart Roger Carlin, making a welcome return to first team colours as a back-row replacement.
Fly-half James Tweedale kicked three conversions.
This Saturday, Minety return to league action with a home fixture against Blandford.
