FAIRFORD Cricket Club's annual presentation dinner and annual meeting, held at the Bull Hotel recently, was attended by over 80 people.
Players and guests celebrated a season in which the first team performed a Lazarus-like feat to finish mid-table after losing eight of their first nine games.
And the second team, with a mixture of youth and experience, finished in the upper echelons of their division.
Following speeches by club chairman Adrian Newport and first team captain Mark Leadbeater, the trophies were awarded with Paul Morris dominating proceedings.
In his first full season with the club, he picked up the second team batting and bowling cups along with and the prestigious cricketer of the year award.
The first team trophies went to big-hitting Mark Greener and swing bowler Ed Bird whilst the most improved player was awarded to exciting young batsman Matt Williams who made his first team debut in 2003.
Tony Peyman presented Adrian Newport with the president's trophy for his work on the ground and the clubman award went to Paddy Bullock for his all- round contribution.
t the club's annual meeting, the majority of last year's committee were re-elected.
In the only real changes, Mark Leadbeater was elected as club captain after standing in mid-way through last season.
And Simon Embleton-Smith has taken over as membership secretary while Graham Clarke and Derek Town-send have joined the committee.
Next season, the first team will again be the area's leading side as they play in the first division of the Gloucestershire County League with the seconds in the Division Three of the parallel league.
The club has also entered the National Village Knockout, will play a number of Sunday friendly matches and is planning to return to the CDCA Evening League and Knockout Cup.
The club's target for the winter is to overhaul the pavilion in order to maximise its use for next season.
And with increased maintenance work having been done on the square this autumn, Fairford are looking forward to a successful 2004 both on and off the pitch.
Fairford are looking for new playing members of all abilities, and anyone interested should visit the club's website at www.fairfordcc.btinternet.co.uk or contact Adrian Newport on 01285 711214.
