THE Best Gross prize in Cirencester Golf Club's October Medal was won by Gareth Bennett with a score of 70.
In this event, held on Saturday, October 4, the weather was mainly dry but not helped by a cold north-westerly wind.
The combination of these conditions and firm, fast greens made scoring difficult, but did not prevent several in-form players from recording some outstanding scores.
In Division 1 (scratch-10 h'cap), David Clark returned a superb score of net 63 to win this division comfortably.
Second with an outstanding score of net 66 was John Seabrook, who was closely followed by Alex Hobson in third with a score of net 67.
Fourth with a net 68 was Gareth Bennett.
An excellent score of net 67 in Division 2 (11-15 h'cap) secured first place for Steve Townsend.
With two players finishing on 68, a countback was applied which saw Ryan Dix finishing second and Martin Lenehan third.
Nigel Legg returned a score of net 69 to secure fourth place.
Division 3 (16-28 h'cap) was won by Geoff Ludbrook with an outstanding score of net 65 and Wayne Collingwood scored a creditable net 67 to finish second.
David Griffin beat David Finlay for third place on countback with both players having scored net 68.
The Committee Cup, played for annually by present and former committee members of Cirencester Golf Club, took place on the afternoon of Sunday, October 5.
On a dry day but in a penetrating cold north-westerly, this competition was closely contested.
Two players scored an outstanding 39 stableford points and, after a countback, Bob Hadley was declared the winner with Phillip Franklin taking second place.
With two players scoring 38 points, a countback was also required to decide third and fourth place with Sandy Rich prevailing over David Wicks.
