WITH holidays and household chores out of the way for now, it was back to sensible numbers for last Sunday's Barbara-led Corinium Cycling Club run.
Frank Savage and Norman Hayes rejoined the group, eager to make a good start to the autumn campaign.
Dave Druce, also making a welcome reappearance, was aboard his splendid new bike.
Barbara had devised an intricate route out of Cirencester as she led the group towards Siddington and South Cerney.
As the open sections of road seemed to be favouring the riders with a tailwind, the group made good time with Barbara happy to lead from the front.
That was until the start of the run-up to Poulton when the headwind meant a call for 'Big Adam' to go to the front and give her some shelter.
Passing through Quenington and Coln St Aldwyn, the party agreed that the Coln valley had to be one of the most beautiful parts of the country.
Just out of Coln St Aldwyn, Dave Druce headed for home, leaving the remaining riders to negotiate the short climb to Kilkenny crossroad and the lumpy ride to the tea-break at Northleach.
Here they were soon joined by the fast run, consisting of Peter Holden and Rob Wyatt.
At this point, Cliff Dutton took his leave as he was riding off to Cheltenham with his wife to watch the cyclo-cross at Pittville Park.
Into more hilly terrain now, the group set off up Farmington rise.
Riders spent the next few miles out of the saddle, climbing or hunched over the handlebars as they tried for more speed through Turkdean, Notgrove before splashing through the ford at Harford Bridge.
The clarity of bright autumn sun meant that the views of the Cotswolds were nothing short of stunning as they made their way to lunch at Guiting Power Farm Park.
Once lunch was over, it was a wind-assisted ride into Bourton-on-the-Water where they all met up with many familiar faces as they intercepted the aptly named Falling Leaves Audax.
Splitting into three small groups, they then took their separate ways home.
This Sunday's run, to Poppy's at Chipping Sodbury, sees Frank Savage shepherding the 9.30am gentle run and Derek Mitchell leading the faster group at 10am.
Both runs meet at the Market Place in Cirencester with the elevenses stop to be taken at Malmesbury Garden Centre.
