GLORIOUS sunshine set the scene for a great day of racing for the Cotswold Model Car Club on September 13.
A new track layout, with a total length of 240m, gave the Nitro cars a chance to show off their speed down the long straight and a twisty infield tested the handling.
But the hot weather caused high tyre wear and different compounds were tried to balance grip with wear.
Fastest qualifiers in each group were Modified, William Holloway; Nitro, Ricky Mottram; Stock, Andrew Mottram; and Open, Mick Nash.
The qualifying results were analysed and the grid listings were printed.
The Modified final got under way, which was combined with the Open final. The winner of the Modified class was William Holloway with Mick Nash winning the Open class.
The Nitro final was a ten-minute affair with consistency and accuracy being the key to doing well.
Eventual winner was Andrew Saunders from Doug Tanner. Andrew Mottram took the win in the Stock final with Sam Tanner taking second.
And the longer track produced lap times around 25 seconds, whereas previous laps times were 16 or 17 seconds.
Current top three positions in each class in the Swindon Model Centre Championship are as follows:
Modified: John Ridding 66 points, Paul Leyfield 50, Mitchell Saunders 48. Nitro: Doug Tanner 69, Ricky Mottram 58, Ady Garlick 53.
Stock: Andrew Mottram 60, James Mudge 53, Sam Tanner 42.
There is a practice meeting at South Cerney this Saturday, September 20.
New and prospective members, who are always welcomes, should call Doug Tanner on 01285 651251 or visit the website www.cotswoldmcc.co.uk.
The club is open to anyone who wants to drive their remote- control car in a fun environment.
