Landscapes on display

PAINSWICK-based artist Judy Bill exhibits her paintings in Brewery Arts Coffee House from August 16 to September 27.

Judy's interest is primarily in the Cotswold landscape, but her focus is on a sense of place and history which lies beneath the surface.

Even her working process reflects this, because she slowly builds up layers of emulsion, inks and pigments and then removes some layers, drawing and scratching into the surface in a method which resembles and archaeological dig.

She is also a frequent visitor to Italy and is fascinated by the Tuscan landscape where she gathers most of the colour pigments which she uses in her work.

So far Judy has shown her work only in the south west where exhibition venues include the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol, the Syreford Gallery, near Cheltenham, Ruskin Mill in Nailsworth, the Museum in the Park, Stroud, The Fiery Beacon Gallery in Painswick, Templeton College, Oxford and Cheltenham Hospital.

The Coffee House is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am-5pm.
