Badminton players are anticipating a good season

THE Cirencester Badminton Club starts preparations for the new 2003-2004 season with the first club night being held at the Cotswold Leisure Centre next Wednesday, September 3, beginning at 7pm.

A new second men's team, together with the six existing teams, have been entered in the local/district leagues with three mixed teams in the Gloucestershire league competing in Divisions 1, 3 and 6 respectively.

Both the men's and ladies doubles team in the Swindon and District League will be playing in Division 1 and the second Ladies team in Division 3 of the Gloucestershire Ladies' league.

The additional men's team will compete in the new Division 7 of the Swindon League.

Last season was another very successful one with all teams maintaining their league positions and the mixed second team gaining promotion, having finished as convincing winners of Division 4.

The mixed first team ended up in third place in Division 1, just missing out on the runners-up spot by three points.

Also doing well were the Ladies first team which finished as runners-up to Pinehurst in the Swindon Ladies League Division 1.

There will be a number of vacancies for ladies and men in the forthcoming season, especially for players with some club/league experience.

The club has a good mix of playing standard, ranging from competent club players through to County standard.

Visitors are accommodated on club nights when potential new members have a chance to check the playing standard before totally committing themselves as full members.

Further details available from the secretary, T J Telling, on 01285 652271 or, alternatively, call in on a club night held on a Wednesdays from 7 to 10pm.
