IT wasn't just the hot weather that was blistering for the third Round of the Swindon Model Centre Championship held by Cotswold Model Car Club on August 9.
For drivers reported hard compound tyres blistering and wearing out as the high track temperatures called for careful driving to last the distance.
A poor turn out, due to holidays, meant that the classes were combined for the racing, each class scoring its own points in the races.
The track was laid out on the fast flowing circuit, as previously used by the club, rather than the 'Street' circuit of late.
Fastest time of the day was by Paul Johnson (Protech XT4) with 17 laps at 5min 9.55sec.
The three heats were run and the starting grid for the final sorted.
Paul Johnson got away in front with Ady Garlick a close second, Brian Hook started late in fourth slot and drove well to claw his way back up through the field to take the lead on lap 12.
Brian won with 17 laps 5m 4.01s from Paul Johnson (Open Class) 17 laps 5m18.44s. Ady Garlick finished second in the Nitro Class with 14 laps 5m2.75s. Next round of the Championship is on September 6.
Current standings in the Swindon Model Centre Championship are: Electric Modified class John Ridding 44pts, Paul Leyfield 34pts and Mitchell Saunders 30pts. Nitro class Doug Tanner 49pts, Ricky Mottram 44pts, Matt Thompson 43pts. Electric Stock class James Mudge 53pts, Sam Tanner 42pts, Andrew Mottram 38pts.
