Top performers at Arts Centre

MUSIC from Georgie Fame, Hazel O'Connor, Lindisfarne and The Blockheads, talks from George Baker (Inspector Wexford) and Ann Widdecombe and comedy from Phil Cool and Danny Bhoy - these are just some of the treats in store at the Arts Centre in Swindon during the next few months.

The brochure for the new autumn season is now out and several performers are back because of the outstanding performances they gave on their previous visit to the Arts Centre.

Bluesman Big Joe Turner returns with his Memphis Blues Caravan in November, while boogie woogie pianist Daniel Smith appears in October.

Three Men and Black, featuring Jake Burns (Stiff Little Fingers), J J Burnell (Stranglers) and Pauline Black and Nick Welsh from Selector, can be guaranteed to deliver a great night of classic songs in November.

A strong drama programme from The Phoenix Players, Old Town Theatre Company and The Western Players is augmented by the Shakespeare Schools Festival in which four local schools will be taking part, and the Black History Month Group's Me Member Wen (I Remember When).

Two interesting modern plays are being revived on professional tours.

Yellow Earth Theatre is bringing Lear's Daughters to the Arts Centre in October and Martin McDonagh's award winning play, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, is presented by Not the National Theatre in November.

Los Pacaminos may not be a familiar name, but lead singer Paul Young certainly is.

Paul started this Tex-Mex band for the sheer pleasure of performing live again.

You won't get any of Paul's solo hits but it will be a great night out.

All this and a full programme of films, exhibitions and workshops and lots more.
