HAVING beaten a strong Bristol Rovers 2-0 in last week's mid-week friendly, Cirencester Town will be looking to do equally well in next Monday's home game (July 28) versus Swindon Town FC, 7.30pm ko.
Meanwhile, this weekend's scheduled game against Woking Town has had to be postponed.
However, so as not to disappoint their fans, the Corinium Stadium management is still very hopeful of arranging another fixture for Saturday, 2pm ko.
Last Saturday, the Town entertained local rivals Cirencester United from Division One of the Hellenic League.
Town introduced new signing Russell Milton from Cheltenham Town and he orchestrated much of the play from midfield with the experienced Cary Wootton organising the defence.
And if Town manager Brian Hughes can keep this squad together, things look very promising for the new season.
It was Milton who instigated Town's first attacks and, from one move, he found Mike Davis out wide.
The latter's perfect cross was met by Gareth Hopkins and his first-time shot was only just wide of the target.
With Town controlling much of the game, United keeper Jason Huxtable had to pull off a string of fine saves.
One fine stop saw him deny a powerful shot from Hopkins and, just before half-time, he tipped a dipping shot from Davis over the bar.
Town stepped up the pace at the start of the second half, and it took only five minutes for them to take the lead when Andy McCabe created space on the left and laid the perfect ball for Davis to fire home from 15 yards.
With Town now pushing forward at every opportunity, Matt Keslake who had taken over the keeper's jersey at half-time, was forced to make two great saves.
First he parried a Wootton header and then stopped another powerful shot from Hopkins.
Mid-way through the half, Town made it 2-0 from a free kick 30 yards out. When Milton stepped up to plant a curling shot into the top left-hand corner of the net, it gave Keslake no chance.
Although Town had their rivals under a certain amount of pressure for the remainder of the game, United defended well to keep the scoreline down to 2-0.
Cirencester Town: Purcell, Robison, McEntegart, Lee, Beaverstock, Wootton, Davis, Milton, Hopkins, Griffin, Bevan, McCabe, Hughes, Minturn, Fitch, Thompson.
Cirencester Utd: Huxtable, Probert, Richings, Warriner, Reeves, Braid, Lawrence, A Keslake, Potter, Davies, Austin, M Keslake, Dickson, Stratford, Robinson, Messenger, Smith. Referee: G Davies (Swindon), attendance 152.
