THE Scriven brothers from Lechlade had their most successful outing of their racing careers last weekend when they got to grips with the competition and came out on top.
aThe elder of the two brothers, 20-year-old Neil (in car No 11), started the ball rolling by taking victory in his heat at Northamp-ton International Raceway on Saturday evening.
Not to be outdone, Sunday saw younger brother Michael, 18 (in car No 12), took the opening heat win at Hednesford Raceway.
And so with both members of the RNS Motors Race Team recording a victory, the pressure was on for the main race - the grand final. When the race got under way, Neil was off like a hare and led for 23 laps with Michael in hot pursuit.
In the final stages of the race, national points champion Frankie Wainman junior was beginning to close the gap on the brothers, along with European champion Paul Harrison.
Michael could see in his mirror that Wainman was on the attack, so he decided that this was the appropriate time to make his move on his brother.
Going into the final bend, Michael moved Neil wide and nipped through on the inside and, with a drag-style sprint to the line, the No 12 car won by just a nose.
This was the first time the brothers had shared the rostrum and probably won't be the last. Wainman finished in third spot.
However, the final race of the weekend was won by Neil, resulting in half of the races contested over the weekend being won by the Scriven boys.
Speaking about his close victory, Michael Scriven explained: "The car was going round as if it was on rails: I saw my opportunity to take the victory from Neil, so I moved him wide."
He finished by saying, "I would like to thank Paul Morse Roofing for their support, along with RNS Motors."
