A belting double success for 'golden girl' Emily

WHEN it comes to the very competitive world of tae kwon-do, a local schoolgirl has admirably demonstrated that she knows all the right moves.

For Emily Greenwood, a first-year pupil at Farmor's School in Fairford who took up the sport barely two years ago, has become something of an overnight sensation by picking up a double gold in the English Tae Kwon-do Championships.

The 12-year-old, who competes with the Cricklade Tae Kwon-do School, won gold in both patterns and sparring disciplines at last month's tournament held in Bristol.

With over 1000 martial artists competing for major honours, Emily's instructor, Victoria Orchard, who has herself won a number of British titles, was especially pleased with her student's success.

A delighted Miss Orchard said, "Emily has a natural ability and is a very talented martial artist."

Also there to cheer her on was Emily's father, Roger Greenwood, a newcomer to tae kwon-do.

He enthused, "I am so proud of Emily and hope I can reach the same heights when I start competing."

Emily's success builds on a gold medal she won at the Welsh Championships in March, hosted by TAGB, the largest tae kwon-do association in the country.
