Ballet comes to Cheltenham

ONE of Britain's most popular dance companies, Ballet Central, comes to The Bacon Theatre in Cheltenham on Thursday, June 19.

Members of the company perform a varied selection of works displaying the amazing talents of the dancers who are all third year students of the Central School of Ballet in London.

The Bacon Theatre is one of a total of 24 venues across Great Britain where they have danced during their 2003 tour.

Audiences have a superb chance to spot stars in the making through the variety of the programme on offer.

These young dancers perform in classical and modern ballet, contemporary and jazz works by both established choreographers such as Christopher Gable and Michael Corder, and exciting young talent.

They dance to music from Handel and Vaughan Williams to Radiohead and Robbie Williams.

This company really is different in that the performers also act as the crew, so that they all - literally - get to know the ropes.

They set up stage, lighting and sound, rehearse, perform, take down and do the get out. "Once you've done all that, you can do anything," said the late Christopher Gable, creator of Ballet Central.

As a springboard for dancers entering the professional dance world, Ballet Central has an unparalleled record. The School has an enviable reputation, with an extremely high percentage of graduates going to take up places with professional dance companies both in Britain and around the world.
