AMONG the 200 competitors that descended on Little Rissington last weekend for the fourth club meeting of the season was Adam Roberts, from Fairford.
If there's one championship that is completely wide open, then it is the Senior TKM class, which alone attracts a massive entry of nearly 60 racers.
Roberts, drawn 18th, 24th and third in his three heats of the day in the Senior TKM class, was hoping for good results from these to give him a top-12 place in the A-final.
However, the 18-year-old was disappointed to make only one place in the first heat due to engine problems.
But, after some minor attention to the engine by BRT, Roberts managed to finish in tenth place in the second heat.
This was despite a red flag incident on the first lap when a marshall was knocked completely out of his marshall's box by two colliding karts.
Luckily, he was only shaken and racing resumed from original grid positions shortly afterwards.
On the way to the grid for the third heat, Adam's kart trolley wheel got caught in a pot-hole and, as a consequence, his kart crashed straight to the ground.
Fearing damage to the kart but with no time to check it out, Adam started in third place and managed to cross the finish line in a highly deserved second position.
The DMH-sponsored youngster had done enough to start in ninth position on the grid for the very competitive A-final.
With a dozen trophies to race for, he had only to keep position.
Nonetheless, the race was fraught with incidents and over-enthusiastic driving by a number of drivers.
So much so that, at the end of the race, several complaints were lodged at race control with the clerk to the course.
These are now under investigation and a final decision on race places will be postponed until all complaints have been investigated.
Provisionally, Roberts is in 13th place, but if any driver is disqualified, then he may well get his top-12 position.
Adam, who is also sponsored by Total Butler Fuels and Keyneswell Motor Company, of Ashton Keynes, will be out racing again in the RAF Championships at Little Rissington on Sunday, July 6.
