Roach sings the blues in Cirencester

BREWERY Arts, Cirencester welcomes back blues singer and guitarist Michael Roach for a long awaited return visit on Friday, May 23 at 8pm.

Originally from Washington DC, and now living in Cheltenham, Michael sings and plays in an East Coast style of blues that dates back to the 1920s.

After spending several years learning directly from such well known figures in the genre, Michael has developed his own style, interacting with his audience and entertaining as he plays.

As a cultural arts performer, Michael has promoted African-American culture through the use of blues music.

He has lectured for the American Smithsonian Institute, Oxford University and, more recently, at the University of Metz in France.

In March this year he presented Deep Blue, a three part series on the history of the blues, for Radio 4.

Michael is the founder of the European Blues Association and for the last three years has served as director and guitar instructor for the organisation's annual Blues Week at Exeter University.

It is through his communication skills and musicianship that he has been able to bring about a greater understanding of blues music. Tickets from the box office on 01285 655522.
