Three records are broken in annual schools' galas

SUCH was the calibre of swimming during the Cirencester Area Schools' galas held at the Cotswold Leisure Centre that three individual records were broken during last month's event.

The small schools' gala was held in the morning when representatives from 16 schools took part in this end-of-spring-term tournament.

The results (in order first, second and third) are as follows:

Boys' freestyle: Christopher Cooper (Meysey Hampton), Daniel Woodward (Birdlip), Jake Peplow (Rodmarton).

Girls' freestyle: Zadie Hale (Avening), Katie Denyer (Ampney Crucis), Bryany Smith (Ingleside).

Boys' backstroke: Jamie Caswell (Birdlip), Harry Seader (Ingleside), Jonathan Slate (Ampney Carucis).

Girls' backstroke: Emily Blampied (Ingleside), Grace Hanselman (Southrop), Laura Marsh (Avening).

Boys' breaststroke: Max Dawe (Meysey Hampton), Danny Lloyd (Hatherop), Peter Berry (Ingleside).

Girls' breaststroke: Megan Edney (Kemble), Checkie Edge Partington (Hatherop), Fraya Trotter (Chedworth).

Football race: Natasha Johnstone (Avening), Megan Hillier (Meysey Hampton), Katie Randles (Kemble).

Relay: Birdlip, Meysey Hampton, Ingleside.

There were eight competing schools in the large schools gala held in the afternoon. The results are:

Y5 boys' freestyle: Matthew Reynolds (Cirencester Junior), Luke Fallows (Cirencester Junior), Josh Hacker (Powells).

Y5 girls' freestyle: Emma Wickes (Ann Edwards), Jasmine Slade (Stratton), Laura Mead (Cirencester Junior).

Y6 boys' freestyle: Christopher Reynolds (Cirences-ter Junior), Callum Marriott (Fairford), Matthew Hatch (Powells).

Y6 girls' freestyle: Christina Shelley (Cirencester Junior), Victoria Millroy (Ann Edwards), Jessica Lucker (Cirencester Junior).

Y6 boys' backstroke: Liam Fraser (Chesterton), Harry Bayliss (Powells), Fred Page (Cirencester Junior).

Y6 girls' backstroke: Jessica Barry (Cirencester Junior), Samantha Brewin (Ann Edwards), Lauren Harding (Stratton).

Y6 boys' breaststroke: Peter Brenan (Cirencester Junior), Nicholas Bond (Powells), George Pitt (Stratton).

Y6 girls' breaststroke: Fabienne Collett (Cirencester Junior), Rebecca Stroud (Powells), Katie Dryland (Stratton).

Football race: Beth Cox (Cirencester Junior), Jessica Watkins (Stratton), George Robinson (Tetbury).

Medley relay: Cirencester Junior, Chesterton, Stratton.

Y5 relay: Stratton, Ann Edwards, Powells.

Y6 boys' relay: County Junior, Powells, Fairford.

Y6 girls' relay: County Junior, Ann Edwards, Powells.

Individual records were broken by Fabienne Collett (Yr 6 breaststroke at 18.36mins) Jessica Barry (Yr 6 backstroke at 17.77mins) and Christopher Reynolds (Yr 6 boys freestyle at 15.32mins).
