Cirencester golfers compete in the May Medal

A LARGE field of over 130 competed in Cirencester Golf Club's May Medal last Saturday.

Heavy rain during the previous few days had softened the fairways, enabling head greens-keeper David Bougen to prepare an excellent course.

But a course playing quite long on a cool, cloudy and windy day made conditions difficult.

Division 1 (scratch-10 h'cap) was won by Stuart Collins with a net par score of 70. Mark Priest also scored net 70 but was second on countback.

These two were closely followed by three players all having scored net 70 with finishing positions decided by countback.

Will Fuller was third, Paul Preston fourth with Clive Bennett finishing in fifth place.

Division 2 (11-15 h'cap) also had two players tying with the same score of net 69. Winner Russell Jones beat Gerald Park on a countback.

R Mills was third with a net 71 and David Walters fourth (net 72), beating John Buck into fifth place on countback.

Division 3 (16-28 h'cap) saw Ian Jones and Tony James both returned outstanding scores of net 67 with Ian first on a countback.

Lawrence Telling was third on countback from club captain Gordon Robbins, both players returning sub par scores of net 68.

Firth with a net 69 was Tom Lloyd.Best gross score was won by Mark Priest with a good round of 76.
