Two first-half errors costs United the points

TWO first-half errors in a league game that Cirencester United really needed to win to be sure of avoiding the relegation places cost them the points on Saturday.

The consolation was that both Harrow Hill and Clanfield, who are below United in the table, also lost and, with two games to play, United's destiny is still in their own hands.

With Stratford and Godding both missing, the midfield took on a new look with Messenger partnering Gary Swann and Ian McSherry.

Although the early exchanges were even, United fell behind when the ball bobbled over Braid's foot to leave Easington's centre-forward a clear shot on goal, from which he make no mistake.

Worse was to follow as Braid was forced to leave the field after a late challenge with Jon Austin taking over defensive duties.

Keeper Wilcox then hesitated and allowed Easington to double the lead with a soft goal.

The second half saw improvement, but Sports' defence played well and their keeper hardly had a shot to save.

Warriner had a late penalty appeal turned down, but Sports ran out comfortable winners.

United were due to entertain in-form Winterbourne last night (Wednesday) and complete their season on Saturday when they travel to Shrivenham.
