Young karter Adam meets a motor racing legend

THE crme de la crme in the local karting world welcome guest of honour John Surtees MBE to the end of season championship trophy presentations held at the Thistle Hotel in Cheltenham.

As the only person ever to have won a world championship on two wheels as well as four, the motor racing legend gave a very entertaining after-dinner talk at this function held on the Saturday before last.

He explained how he 'accidentally' got into in Formula 1 racing when he just happened to be in the right place at the right time when Ferrari needed a driver.

John was the undoubted Michael Schumacher of his day and raced against such greats as Jim Clarke.

Along with his more experienced seniors in attendance was a fairly recent newcomer to the sport, Adam Roberts, from Fairford.

In only his second year in the competitive Senior TKM class, Adam finished in 11th position overall.

He not only managed to finish in the lite top 12 at the end of the championship, but had also twice gained top-ten places in club meetings at Little Rissington.

In fact, he jointly holds the club lap record for the TKM class.

Afterwards, Adam said he was very pleased with his progress last season and was particularly honoured to meet one of the legends in motor racing history, John Surtees.

Adam also wishes to express thanks to his sponsors - DMH of Cirencester, Keyneswell Motor Company and Total Butler Fuels - for their continued support and faith in his abilities.

The 2003 racing campaign is set to start at Little Rissington on March 2, and if anyone interested in supporting Adam this season is asked to contact him on 01285 712150.
