NEARLY 2,000 chickens were killed or injured after a lorry shed its load in Cirencester today (Friday).
The lorry was travelling from the Swindon direction when the accident happened at the fire station roundabout at 1.24pm.
The white articulated lorry, registered to a company in Coventry, mounted a grass verge and hit the wall of a nearby business.
Police were told about the incident by a member of the public.
One lane of the roundabout was closed off while police and fire crews with protective masks cleared the chickens and crates from the road.
The environmental health department and the department of transport were notified by police and an investigation is being carried out into its cause.
