Two ballets to be performed

ELLEN Kent and Ballet International bring the Chisinau National Ballet to the Bristol Hippodrome where they will perform two of the world's favourites, Swan Lake and Nutcracker.

Swan Lake, choreographed Marius Petipa, former premier ballet master of the Imperial Theatre in St Petersburg, runs from Monday to Wednesday, January 13-15, while Nutcracker, which runs from Thursday to Saturday, January 16-18 has as its choreographer Yuri Grigorovich, now aged 75 and one of the most influential and respected Russian choreographers of the 20th century.

Professional ballet began in Chisinau the capital of Moldova in 1957 and the company soon established itself as one of the leading ballet companies in Eastern Europe. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union the theatre in Chisinau was one of the few to retain its own ballet, opera and orchestra, with its own soloists and chorus.

Ellen Kent and her company, Opera and Ballet International, have been responsible for bringing Eastern European companies to the UK for several years and these productions represent part of Ellen's 21st tour.

She is passionate about bringing opera and ballet to everyone and believes that everyone in their lifetime should attend at least one opera.
