Acoustic guitarist makes a welcome return to Cirencester

CIRENCESTER Brewery Arts is delighted to welcome back one of the world's premiere acoustic guitarists, Martin Simpson.

Returning on Saturday, January 25 at 8pm after a sell out debut at Brewery Arts in 2001, Martin will be taking his audience on a musical journey from American blues to old English ballads, via the Emerald Isle.

Martin Simpson has the reputation of one of the finest finger style and slide guitar artists around. His playing, which in part defined the English steel string acoustic guitar sound, is idiosyncratic, instantly recognisable and revered among guitar fans. He is also a powerful songwriter and singer.

His body of work is very diverse, encompassing all types of traditional and acoustic music.

Now working as a solo artist, Martin is well known for his performances with Steeleye Span, The Albion Band, Richard Thompson and June Tabour.

He has collaborated with a bewildering variety of musicians and his albums feature a star studded cast of musicians including Martin Carthy, Kelly Jo Phelps and Henry Gray.

After moving back to the UK after living in the States, Martin was welcomed home by winning BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Instrumentalist and Album of the Year.
