THE MAGIC of Christmas came to Lechlade last week.
Carols rang out across the market square, and there were screams of delight as Santa waded his way through a sea of excited children.
After a welcome by mayor Don Gillard, it was over to Lady Apsley, of Cirencester Park, who switched on the lights on the town Christmas tree.
Lady Apsley was thrilled to have been invited to take part in the ceremony, and she called for people to support local traders.
"Please try to buy as many Christmas gifts as you can from your town," she said.
"Support your traders, because without you they are not going to be there.
"What you have here in Lechlade is incredibly special, and we've all got to do our best to maintain this way of life."
Children then presented Lady Apsley with a bouquet of flowers.
