Lights switched on in Fairford

THE SMELL of roast chestnuts, the sound of carols and a visit from Santa brought Christmas to Fairford last week.

Children were transfixed by entertainer Thomas Trilby the Gentleman Juggler, who whipped up a storm of excitement.

There were gasps as he juggled firesticks and screams of laughter as animal balloons were blown and twisted into shape.

Six-year-old Aaron Dinsdale could hardly contain his delight when he was chosen as Mr Tribly's assistant.

An array of stalls at the farmers' market provided an opportunity for some early Christmas shopping, and fundraisers sold T-shirts and books in aid of the Community Centre Appeal.

The lights on the Christmas tree were switched on by Fairford Festival Queen Francesca Dudas, while town crier Maurice Jones ensured everyone knew what was going on.
