MALMESBURY Boxing Club notched up another two wins recently when they attended shows at Abingdon and Bristol.
Last Friday, Joe Hughes thrilled the Abingdon crowd with a typically battling performance against the much taller John Donohue (Southampton).
Hughes took time in assessing his opponent and struggled to get his punches on target in the first round which was probably edged by the Southampton boy.
Things changed in the second, however, as Hughes found the range with his jab and also short hooks in close.
By the third, all the cleaner punches were being landed by the Malmesbury boy who went on to get the points decision and, later in the evening, the trophy for the Best Boxer of the night.
Monday saw the club at Jury's Hotel in Bristol where a Western Counties select team faced the Army.
Malmesbury's Aaron Kehoe filled the middleweight spot for the Western Counties and faced the Army's 6ft 7in J Nicols who posed his opponents plenty of problems in the early rounds.
But Kehoe's patience paid in the fourth when a crushing right to the head dropped Nicols and brought an eight count from the referee.
Soon after, a terrific left hook to the body felled the soldier once more for another count.
And when a further attack had Nicols in trouble again, the Army corner quickly threw in the towel to rescue their man.
