Chipping Campden braced for Coldshot gig

CHIPPING Campden is preparing to be blasted by the finely-honed sound of Coldshot.

The six-piece will be unleashing their unique brand of jazz-tinged funk rock at the town's Royal British Legion on Friday from 9pm.

Formed in 1998, the band - Bex (vocals), Paul Arthurs (percussion and backing vocals), Chads (keyboards and backing vocals), Mark Griffiths (vocals), Tamash Lal (guitar) and Pete Winton (bass) - combine an array of styles.

Theres fast, edgy funk, driving rhythms, slivers of modern jazz and soaring harmonies, all laced with the purr of a vintage Rhodes piano.

Anyone attending a Coldshot gig can expect to be pummelled by the pounding funk of songs like Two Different Sides one minute, and bathed in the soothing acoustic guitar melodies and silky soft vocals of Dream Song the next.

Coldshot have recorded two albums - Should Have Written It Down and Session No 9 - and copies of both will be available at the gig.

All songs are written by the band, and they also perform covers of Spearhead's Sometimes and Weather Reports Birdland.

They have played at various venues in Cheltenham and also performed at Cirencesters Corn Hall as part of Unborn.
