MacDougal is 13th in Frampton 10k

ON a lovely summers evening, several Bourton Road Runners turned out for the Frampton 10k for what was the fifth in the clubs race series.

First man home in this event, held on July 8, was Ian MacDougal who can be seen racing on the road more often.

In a competitive field, his time of 34.47min earned him 13th overall, fourth Vet 40 and maximum club points.

Behind him, a duel was opening up between Richard Bufton and Steve Humphries.

But Steves marathon strength paid off as he pulled away at half-way and opened up a lead to finish ahead in 37.12.

First Vet 50 across the line for the club was John Rapier in a good time of 39.04.

He was undoubtedly spurred with an in-form Norm Lane just behind him. John was delighted to cross the line in 39-43, the first time he has broken the magic 40-minute barrier since his hip replacements.

Next home was Roger Woodley in an improved time of 43.35 and he was followed by Ed Rozier in 45.31.

First Vet 60 for the club in 48.21 was the consistent Dennis Abbotts.

Competition for the points was strong in the ladies field as well. Liz Hulcup had a great run and was well inside 50 minutes. Her time of 49.19 is one she should be proud of.

Carolyn Coleman, in next in, was pushed hard by Jane Blakewell who was only 20 seconds behind her.

Running on the back of their Bourton 15 success came Jonathan Wilson and Gill Wilkie. This time, Jonathan pulled ahead to cross the line first.

Results: Ian MacDougal 34.47, Steve Humphries 37.12, John Rapier 39.04, Norman Lane 39.43, Roger Woodley 43.35, Ed Rozier 45.31, Dennis Abbotts 48.21, Liz Hulcup 49.19, Carolyn Coleman 50.02, Jane Blackwell 50.23.

In this the third of a four-race series held throughout the summer, just three Roadrunners were competing.

On a warm July 18 evening, they lined up with 80 other to complete the course around Sandhurst village.

Dennis Walmsley was up against a strong field, including the in-form Dan Robinson.

Sticking with the leading pack to half-way, he hung on to cross the line a respectable third.

Next member across the line was Lucy Townsend who was pleased with her time of 19min 28sec.

Then came Dennis Abbotts who fought hard to beat a regular rival and achieve a time of 22.50 in the process.
