Rally star McRae to visit Castle Combe

WORLD Championship rally driver Alastair McRae is just one of the stars of the second Rally Supercar Day being held at the Castle Combe Circuit on Saturday, July 27.

McRae, one of the works Mitsubishi drivers competing in the World Rally Champion-ship, is the brother of Colin McRae, the former World Rally Champion.

His Mitsubishi Evolution is one of the most popular cars for rally enthusiasts with over 80 examples on display at the event last year.

This year, the Mitsubishs will be joined by 20 other car clubs, with 40 Audi Quattros alone in attendance, having their own dedicated track parade.

Other stars due to appear include former Top Gear presenter Tony Mason, who will be interviewing McRae and many of the other drivers taking part in the Feature Rally Stage, one of the most popular aspects of last years event.

And there will also be legendary Mini exponent Paddy Hopkirk as well as the late Roger Clarks son, Oliver, together with the MG Xpower Extreme Rally team.

Needing to be seen to be believed are the antics of Russ Swift performing feats with cars which defy the laws of physics.

Swift made his name with his parking antics in a supermarket car park featured in the Montego adverts in the 1980s.

Besides numerous other displays, parades, trade stands and every type and kind of rally car from the last 30 years, theres the chance to drive your own car on the circuit, provided it is in-keeping with the theme of the day.

A six-lap track pass costs £20. Full details can be obtained from the website, www.rallyday.com

The days event starts at 9am. Admission is £8 for adults and accompanied children go free.
