THIS years running of the WTTA 100-mile time trial almost failed to get off the ground as official timekeeper Dave Sim-monds was suddenly taken ill.
Fortunately, Ron Diplock was able to step into the breech and the event went ahead as planned.
For the two Corinium members who had entered, it was to be the inaugural 100-mile TT for both of them.
Making the most of the good weather was Andrew Smith, first Corinium rider home with a scintillating ride of 4hr 44min 5min.
Slightly slower, but no less commendable, was John Ashurst who clocked 4.56.47. It was a great result for them both.
While Chippenhams Andy Cook was unable defend the title he won last year, he did have the satisfaction of seeing team mate Mark Wareham win the event in 3-59.26 and what the only sub-four hour ride of the day.
Possible confusion over an earlier start may have been the reason that a smaller group than expected started last Sundays run, the Standard 100.
Three riders left the Market Place at 9am and headed out of Cirencester along the Chelten-ham Road towards Coberley.
The morning was cloudy and overcast and, by the time that they had passed through Leckhampton, the nagging head wind made a stop at Staverton Airport for a cup of tea all the more welcome.
Here, Frank Savage, Derek Mitchell and Neil Mattingley were met by Peter Holden to bolster the group to four.
Wainlodes Hill, Haw Bridge and Red Morley came and went and it was a thankful band that called a halt in Ledbury for lunch.
After vying for space with a large group of boisterous Morris Dancers, the riders finished their lunch and headed out past Eastnor Castle, taking to the foothills of the Malverns as they sped through Holly Bush.
At Upton-on-Severn, they followed the course of the river to Worcester and were relieved to cross and head on to Pershore with the benefit of a tailwind.
After another brief tea-stop, it was time to tackle the lanes through Eckington, Bredon, Ashchurch and Bishops Cleeve.
Cheltenhams Pittville Park was the last tea-stop of the day in preparation for Charlton Kings and the long climb from Seven Springs up to the main road en route to Cirencester.
Steadily improving weather meant that they finished their 105-mile ride in glorious sunshine.
There is no run this Sunday as Corinium CC are promoting an open ten-mile time trial.
Event organiser Dave Roper will be grateful for any assistance in marshalling, so please contact him if you are available.
TOUR CANCELLED One of the countys top sporting events, the Tour of the Cotswolds cycle race, has had to be cancelled this year due to a lack of funds.
Organisers of this popular annual spectacle have pulled the plug on the tour because they were unable to find a sponsor.
The race was set to celebrate its 50th anniversary had it gone ahead this weekend as originally planned.
