Club members show plenty of enthusiasm

AT Cirencester Judo Clubs annual awards ceremony, held at the Corn Hall on July 17, Paul Whereat (Sensei) thanked the many parents and guests for their continuing support.

He explained that membership had increased and the club now has a good number of senior members.

Junior and senior achievements throughout the year have been pleasing and Paul is grateful for all the enthusiasm shown by members.

During the year, Dave Curtis had achieved his first-aid at work award and club coach award and Sensei Paula achieved his first-aid at work and senior club coach award.

Most improved junior and most improved Kano were brothers, Ashley and Dan Warrener.

Trophies were awarded as follows: John Proverbs Trophy for the most improved boy, Ashley Warrener; Vera Whereat Trophy for the most improved girl, Abigail Portus; Lodge Motors Trophy shared by the runners up of the two previous categories, Karl Curtis/Samantha Jones; Whiteways Shield (for the two people who have achieved the most within themselves by their own determination and endurance in the sport of Judo), Adam Wheeler/William Thomas; Robin Peer Trophy for the greatest contribution by a judoka in all aspects of the Cirencester Judo Club, Michael Rose; Hughes Contribution Trophy for the runner-up of the previously mentioned class, John Cima.

Kano Trophy for the most improved Kano, Dan Warrener; Kano runner-up, Danny Gordon Walker; Cowley and Son Trophy for the Kano who comes regularly, who always tries hard and who is a smart, well behaved judoka, Michael MacKellar Still.

Highly commended certificate awards: James Allsop, James Burgess, John Cass, Rachel Daly, Jamie Gordon Walker, Katherine Sanders, William Strohm, Oli Swindell, Sara Vepers.
