GLOUCESTERSHIRE will host the largest Mediaeval Festival ever to be staged in the UK when Joust - A Weekend of Mediaeval Mayhem comes to Berkeley Castle on July 27 and 28.
The weekend, which promises to be a rip-roaring family event with displays of jousting, horsemanship, archery and falconry, also includes in the ticket price a trip round Berkeley Castle itself, built in 1153 and the scene of the brutal murder of Edward II.
Visitors to the Festival can experience the drama of combat when 500 fully armoured knights re-enact a siege, come face-to-face with wandering minstrels, storytellers and a medieval dance troupe and witness the daily lives of craftsmen in the living history village.
For the more romantic, the Mediaeval Baebes sing songs of chivalry, love and loss.
The fun starts at 10am on both days and finishes at 6pm. Tickets from the Joust website www.joust.info from Cheltenham, Gloucester and Stroud TICs or from Berkeley Castle ticket office.
