Runners Wright and Elaine Wilson making their mark

LAST weeks Frampton-on-Severn 10k race brought further success for Dave Wright and Elaine Wilson in Cirencester Athletics Clubs road race championship.

Both took maximum points to move into a clear lead with just two races remaining.

Wright overtook the whole Cirencester team after starting right at the back of the 370 strong field and steadily moved through the field to finish 54th in 39m 01s.

Elaine, meanwhile, knocked over half a minute off her previous best to clock 47m 34s. Second home for Cirencester was Andy Read, followed by Bob Ferris just outside the 40-minute mark.

Richard Waldron did well to finish fifth in the O60 category despite suffering with the effects of hay fever which forced him to stop a couple of times over the last mile.

Making his first race appearance in club colours for some time was John Dorling, who started at the back with Wright but overtook nearly half the field.

Lynn Ferris was delighted to set a personal best beating her previous 10k time by 44 seconds which moved her into a secure second place in the clubs ladies road race championship.

Leading positions in the club championship after four faces are: Male. 1 D Wright 58, 2 R Waldron 47, 3 C Sherrington 41, 4 T Collings, A Rowles, B Ferris 26. Female. 1 E Wilson 67, 2 L Ferris 30, 3 W Jones, M Campbell 15, 5 P Vass 14, 6 P Wheeler, C Clarke 13.

Next round of the club road race championship is the Witney ten miles on Sunday, September 15.
