CIRENCESTER Town are set to play their very first match at the new Corinium Stadium in Kingshill Lane this Saturday when they entertain Tottenham Hotspurs, 3pm kick-off.
And there is no-one more eager to get that first game under the belt than Towns recently appointed manager, Brian Hughes.
In having to face ex-Swindon Town player Colin Calderwoods Spurs Reserves side for Towns inaugural fixture at their new home, Hughes says, Its an exciting prospect and a real prestige first game for us.
However, its still very early days as we are currently building a team in readiness for a new season still some weeks away.
I accept its a big challenge for us, but were really looking forward to playing at our new ground with its superb facilities.
In the build-up to Saturdays match, for which a near-capacity crowd is expected, Town played a friendly at Tuffley Rovers on Tuesday evening. In a useful warm-up, Hughes was able to cast an eye on several triallists.
But Cirencester Town will hardly have time to breathe before they entertain another illustrious team, Manchester United U19s, next Wednesday, July 24, 7.30pm ko.
The following Saturday, July 27, Barnet FC are the visitors to Corinium Stadium, 3pm ko.
Next up are Watford FC who make their journey to Cirencester on Thursday, August 1, 7.30pm.
And for the final game of this special series, Bristol City take a relatively short to play Town on Tuesday, August 6, 7.30pm ko.
