Famous fairytale is theme of ballet

CIRENCESTER Dance Club is bringing another successful year to a close with its bi-annual July ballet production - this time entitled The Mermaid.

Jenny Gaden, who has been teaching with the Club for 11 years, has been rehearsing the students hard since February. She has used her own choreography for The Mermaid which is based on the famous fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson and is about an inquisitive mermaid who falls in love with a mortal.

It is a dramatic story and Jenny is producing it as a tribute to her former teacher, Lydia Kyasht Jnr. Lydia taught at what was then the Cirencester Ballet Club for many years and choreographed and produced The Mermaid in 1981- with a much younger Jenny in the leading role.

The Club is happy to welcome James Linehare, a young male dancer from Thamesdown Dance Studios in Swindon, who is joining the production to take the role of the Prince.

The Mermaid opens at the Bingham Hall with an evening performance on Friday, July 19 and a matinee and evening performance on Saturday, July 20. Tickets from Cirencester TIC, telephone number 01285 654180.

Classes in classical ballet and tap for all ages, including toddlers and adults, begin again in September and new members are always welcome. Call Jenny on 01285 642812.
