Singing legend Elkie to hit Cheltenham

SINGER Elkie Brooks has just embarked on a UK tour with a show which is very different from any she has done before, with a six piece orchestra which includes two drummers and a percussionist, and the chance to see her playing a piano live on stage, something she has not done for 20 years.

The piano once belonged to Stevie Wonder and was given to Elkie by her friend, pianist Jean Roussel.

Selected tracks from her latest album, Shangri-la, will be performed live at the concert. Also this year Elkie has recorded a jazz and blues album with Humphrey Littleton, entitled Trouble In Mind, as well as a duet with Andy Williams which is soon to be released.

Since her career began in the early 1960s as a support act to the Beatles, Elkie has had over a dozen UK hit singles and is officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the most successful UK female album seller of the past 20 years.

She brings her new show to Cheltenham Town Hall on July 23 and tickets are available from the box office on 01242 227979.
