View plans for village sports complex

PLANS for a new £400,000 Bourton-on-the-Water sports complex are to be displayed for the village's residents.

Bourton Vale Sports and Social Club, which has Cotswold District Council's planning permission to build the complex at its Rissington Road ground, will publicly display its plans at Victoria Hall, Victoria Street, tomorrow (Friday) from 2pm to 8pm.

There will be large-scale models of the new facilities, to be used by Bourton Rovers Football Club, Bourton Rovers Youth Football Club, Bourton Roadrunners, Bourton Tennis Club and Bourton Ladies Hockey Club.

Tim Faulkner, club chairman, will attend to answer questions about the development which will feature an increased number of changing rooms, an improved bar and function room, enhanced pitches and other facilities.

The club has so far raised about £20,000 towards the development and intends to apply to the Football Association and other organisations for further funding.

Bourton Rovers player, Tim Heming, said the new facilities were needed because the existing ones were inadequate for the number of people using them and do not attract new people into sport.

He said: "Currently, the membership of all the clubs is approaching 500 but all the clubs are keen to attract new members.

"Because it serves age groups from six to 80-plus, hopefully this will be a project that the whole community can become enthused with."
