THE inaugural Festival of British Eventing will be held at Gatcombe Park, the home of HRH the Princess Royal over the weekend of August 2-4.
The Festival of Eventing will incorporate the British Open Championship CIC/ W*** and the British Intermediate Championship, in the 20th year of the horse trials at Gatcombe.
This will be the first ever CIC World Cup qualifier for the World Cup final in Pau, France, in October 2003.
The Festival will also introduce the Novice Championship, brand new to Gatcombe for 2002. The additions to the Gatcombe programme mean the Festival of British Eventing will be an important focus for the competition schedules of riders based in this country and overseas.
It also allows the best horses and riders from every level of the sport to take part at this prestigious event for the first time.
"We are thrilled to be hosting the Festival of British Eventing in conjunction with British Eventing.
"The addition of the Novice Championship will mean the very best competitors in the country will now have the chance to compete at Gatcombe Park.
"I am especially looking forward to the challenge of designing a course which riders at the different levels will enjoy.
"It will be a weekend of high excitement, providing the ultimate challenge for competitors from the UK and overseas, all of whom will be aiming to go home with one of the National Championship trophies," said Captain Mark Phillips.
As well as three days of top class eventing, Gatcombe Park will also be the site for a wide range of activities for all the family.
These include shopping for over 100 trade stands, dressage to music, fly casting, parades of the Beaufort hounds, the Royal Agricultural College beagles and the British Sport Horse Breeders, and a display of riding on motorcycles and quad bikes.
Further attractions will be a parade of rehabilitated racehorses and the terrier racing roadshow.
Tickets on-line at www.gatcombe-horse.co.uk or credit card hotline on 01937 541811.
