Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division 1 Lydney 1 Bourton Rovers 4
Doubles from Mark Odom and teenage winger David Davanzo gave Bourton maximum points from their trip to Lydney Town on Saturday.
Lydney, placed just above Rovers in the table, were undone as three defensive lapses and a superb 25-yard volley from Davanzo gave Bourton a fine away victory.
Playing with the strong wind in the first period Rovers were given a dream start when a short back pass was picked up by the hard working Hudson and his rolled cross left a head-to-head chase between Mark Odom and a Lydney defender. Odom won it and stabbed the ball into the gaping net.
Lydney struggled to cope with the strong wind as Bourton played some tidy football, and the second goal, one of the best strikes of their season, came courtesy of Davanszos right boot.
The young right-sided player, in his debut season in Rovers first team showed excellent quality as he rifled a dropping clearance straight back into the top corner past a bemused goalkeeper.
After the interval concentration should have been key for the visitors, but despite the warnings just five minutes after the re-start Lydney were back in the game. A poor clearance and sloppy marking from a corner saw a Lydney forward sweep the ball past Herbert from barely six yards out.
What should have then turned into an all out assault on the Bourton goal didnt materialise because almost immediately a Odom was allowed a clear run through the heart of the defence to restore the two goal cushion.
Davanzo then made it four, when in contrast to his first goal, he mis-hit a shot from the right hand side that inexplicably bobbled in past an increasingly disgruntled keeper.
Both fullbacks were outstanding for Bourton with Tommy Arkell made his first appearance of the season on the right and the returning Gary Clark more than meriting his place in the side.
Next Saturday, Rovers travel to Gloucester to play Tuffley Rovers.
