Speedway - Swindon

Swindon face their sternest test of the season so far, when they take on Trelawny at the Abbey Stadium this Thursday (11th April).

The Tigers have made a rip-roaring start to their Premier Trophy campaign, and will be looking to add to that success against an Impact Robins outfit that is now also beginning to flex its muscles in the competition.

The clash between two of the leading lights in the South Western section of the Trophy will be eagerly awaited by fans from Wiltshire and Cornwall alike, and Swindon's Oliver Allen is also looking forward to what, he believes, will be one of his side's toughest matches of the season.

"Trelawny are definitely one of the strongest teams in the Premier League this year," he says.

"Like us last year they are powerful right through the line-up."

Turning his attention to the Impact Robins, Allen says he is enjoying the time of his life this year at Blunsdon. "I'm just having so much fun this year." He admits. "Being in such a young team, in which everyone from Jason King to Paul Fry is so keen, is brilliant. Personally, I'm looking to up my average considerably this year, and with everybody pulling together, I definitely feel we can win at least one trophy, and the Premier League title would be especially nice!"

The Trelawny squad this year is certainly a cosmopolitan one, consisting as it does, riders from England, the Czech Republic and Argentina, as well as a couple of genuine Cornishmen.

The locals are Simon Phillips from nearby Roche, who teams up with Czech Richard Wolff in the reserve section, and ex-Robin Seemond Stephens from Newquay, Pavel Ondrasik's partner in the opening race.

Dashing Emiliano Sanchez adds some South American flair to the middle order, alongside another ex-Swindon teamster, Steve Masters, while Chris Harris returns from the broken wrist injury which saw him miss the final six weeks of last season, taking the number 5 race jacket.

Swindon will be sticking with the septet that have served them well so far this season, although Team Manager Peter Oakes may decide to make one or two positional changes, as he has already done this season, in order to find his optimum blend.
