Top band Lindisfarne are ready to rock into Swindon.

LINDISFARNE first appeared out of Tyneside in the early 70s with an instantly recognisable style which combines memorable songs, rootsy instrumentation and rock sensibility. They produced a clutch of hit records such as 'Meet Me On The Corner', 'Lady Eleanor,' 'Fog On The Tyne' (the top selling British album of 1972) and 'Run For Home,' which bucked the current trends but have since acquired classic status.

The euphoria generated by their live appearances everywhere, from small clubs to international festivals, won them a following large enough to see them placed above the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin in a 'Melody Maker' readers poll.

The 90s saw a re-awakening of interest in roots-based, 'unplugged' music and Lindisfarne found a new generation of fans warming to their sound, hearing echoes of the folk-blues of an earlier era and recognising a blueprint for contemporary acoustic rock.

Tickets for the group's performance at The Wyvern Theatre, Swindon, on Thursday, April 11, from the box office on 01793 524481.
