Bowls - Fairford

On Saturday, Fairford played host to the President of the Gloucestershire Indoor Bowling Association and his team. This match was a little more significant than usual in that the President, Peter Fisher, is a member of Fairford Bowling Club. A closely fought, friendly game was enjoyed by players on both sides and ended with honours almost even.

On Sunday Fairford travelled to Cotswold Indoor Bowling Club to meet Nailsworth in the final of the Cotswold Mens Inter Club Knockout Cup. Fairford managed to win the Trophy for the second time following a close match between two very competitive teams, the match was played in a very friendly atmosphere and was enjoyed by all players.

On Rink 1 John Young and his team were level after 5 ends but suffered badly on the 6th when Ken Porter and his team scored 6 shots to go ahead 11 shots to 5. A gradual recovery over the next four ends again saw the teams level and this time it was Fairford who managed a decisive move scoring a maximum 8 shots on the 11th end. Tit for tat exchanges in the remaining ends left Fairford with a good win by 27 shots to 19.

On Rink 2 Brian Hill and his team found themselves in a very tight struggle with the score see-sawing back and forth but with never more than 5 shots difference between between the teams inspite of single end scores of four shots being recorded no less than five times during the match, two to Fairford and three times to Nailsworth. The game finished with with Fairford recording another rink win 24 shots to 22.

On Rink 3 Tony Peyman and his merry men recovered well from a bad start, being 8 shots to nil down after the first 4 ends, and after 18 ends were three shots to the good, Unfortunately the last three ends saw Nailsworth score 7 shots thus taking the game 23 shots to 19.

On Rink 4 John Wattons team came under a sustained attack from their Nailsworth opposition and were 19 shots to 6 down after 13 ends, but then came the Fairford recovery and the sort of finish that wins cups over the last 8 ends Fairford scored 13 shots to only 1 for Nailsworth and the game was lost by only 1 shot, 20 to 19.

Match result a win for Fairford by 89 shots to Nailsworth 84 shots.
