Rugby - Cricklade

Dorset & Wilts Div2 North

Cricklade were looking forward to this game after recent performances and were keen to complete a league double over a youthful Colerne side.

In the early exchanges there was nothing between the two teams as Colerne with the wind advantage tried hard to get into an early lead.

It was not until the 14th minute that after good forward pressure saw Cricklade No 8 Jon Bucksey power over for his 1st try of the afternoon Lloyd converted to make it 7-0.

Cricklade crossed over the Colerne try line three more tines only for them to be disallowed including what seemed a harsh decision where prop Sam Gay went over on his first game back from a lengthy injury.

In the 39th Minute a quick fed ball from Danny Lloyd saw Jon Bucksey gallop over for his second with Lloyd converting to give a Cricklade a half time lead of 14-0.

With the wind now with them Cricklade knew the next 10-15 minutes were vital and this proved the case as in the next few minutes first Captain Simon Howse then Lloyd went over with Lloyd converting both to take the score to 28-0.

Colerne came back to there credit including a strong run from Captain Wills which only just failed short of the try line. But again Cricklade quick hands saw Geoff Badger then Prop Steve Baldwin fly over to kill the game with Lloyd getting both conversions to give a Cricklade lead of 42-0.

From a sweeping Back move Centre Danny Lloyd was allowed to grab his second try of the game. In the closing stages man of the match Jon Bucksey stormed across for his third only for Lloyd to miss from an easy angle with the kick.

And at the whistle flanker Sven Grove got in on the act to score from a tight angle, Lloyd mssed the final attempt to make the final score 57-0.

Cricklade are again in league action this week when they travel to Hungerford in a match that should decide third place in the league.
