Musicians come to town

THE collaboration of lyricist Clive James and musician/composer Pete Atkin was revived by the relaunch of their albums over the internet last year.

Back on the road, their new double act, "Clive James and Pete Atkin Together At Last Again," is a laid-back recap of their adventures in the music business since the late sixties when, as members of the Cambridge Footlights, they forged a relationship which produced six albums in the seventies.

Pete sings songs on guitar and keyboards, which in their acoustic form are something of mixture of Pete Seeger and Alan Price.

Some are serious and some are funny, touching on Apollo 13, jazz pianists, westerns and one about gangsters, The Joker, which would not look out of place on a Scott Walker CD.

Clive intones poems on pieces of paper, with offerings which did not make it to become songs, and even has a go at a vocal number himself.

"The Book of My Enemy Has Been Remaindered" shows him at his witty Australian best.

"The real rapport still between the duo means that the 2002 tour of this perfect remedy to chat show doldrums should be the sell-out that it deserves." (The Stage)
