zwgs 3314v English National Ballet brings Rudolph Nureyev's 'Romeo and Juliet' to the Bristol Hippodrome.
Dance:
RUDOLPH Nureyev's celebrated production of 'Romeo and Juliet' will be performed by English National Ballet at The Bristol Hippodrome from March 26-30 as part of the company's contribution towards this year's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Nureyev's original production was created for English National Ballet in 1977 for the Queen's Silver Jubilee and was last performed in Bristol by the Company in 1995.
The company has been privileged to have had the guidance of Nureyev's original collaborators, Patricia Ruanne and Frederic Jahn who played Juliet and Tybalt in the first production.
They worked with the company until the opening night of the Spring Tour in Liverpool, to ensure that all the details were exactly as Nureyev envisaged them 25 years ago.
Ezio Frigerio's sets and costumes, together with Tharon Musser's lighting designs, combine with inventive choreography to realise Nureyev's vision of Renaissance Verona, his interpretation of Shakespeare's tragic play and of Prokofiev's powerful score as the company recreates the young lovers' intense passion.
The full orchestra of English National Ballet, conducted by music director Anthony Twiner, accompanies the 64 dancers of the company whose 19 nationalities represent the best in international dance talent on one stage.
There will be no performance on Good Friday.
