Evans above, it's comic star Lee

COMEDY star Lee Evans, who has been described as "a cross between Frank Spencer, Marcel Marceau and Phil Cool on a bus load of amphetamines," comes to enthrall Cheltenham audiences with his particular brand of comic talent when he performs at the Town Hall on Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10.

The Bristol-born former boxer has show business in his blood and his father, Dave Evans, still performs at clubs and on piers. Lee began by doing the rounds of working mens' clubs until his break came in 1988 when he took the Edinburgh Festival by storm.

This year he achieved his ambition to perform at the London Palladian, having appeared on television, radio and the theatre, both with others and on his own shows, his latest being the BBC1 sitcom "Lee Evans - So What Now" which was screened last year.

Among the many accolades which have been showered on him over the years, this series got him a nomination as most popular comedy performer at the 2001 National Television Awards.

Tickets from the Town Hall box office on 01242 227979.
